Regional

Every two years, more than 500 Regional Competitions are held in 34 regions across Australia. They test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the chance to win gold, silver and bronze medals and go on to compete at a national level. 2024 is the next Regional Competition year.

Competitors are the stars of the Regional Competitions, but training providers, employers, local government, industry, employers, volunteers and sponsoring partners also have important roles to play.

“I believe that WorldSkills Australia has helped me to grow into a better-rounded individual. The experience of competing and meeting so many people from different skills and walks of life really puts things into perspective.”

How to compete

Keen to develop your skills and try your hand against the best in Australia? Bring it on! You can nominate yourself, or a teacher, training provider or employer can nominate you. We recommend you discuss taking part with your training providing and employer first.

Information for employers

The competition’s focus on quality standards aligned to industry endorsed training packages means they can be used by employers and training providers to benchmark their own apprenticeship and training programs. Content can be tailored to meet local skills demands.

By encouraging your employees to enter a WorldSkills Australia competition, you’re highlighting your organisation’s commitment to raising standards in work-based learning, and contributing to the growth of Australia’s skills culture. It’s also a great opportunity to raise the organisation’s profile in your industry, your community and beyond.

You’ll need to be willing to support your employee with mentoring, time off work to train and compete. In return, you’ll gain a young person who is going above and beyond to be the very best in their profession and add value to your business.
