How did you become involved with WorldSkills Australia?

I became involved through my workplace. My immediate boss was involved in the Automotive Mechanics WorldSkills competitions at regional, national  and international levels. I was asked to help out at a Regional Competition and I have become more involved ever since.

What are your roles and responsibilities as a volunteer?

I have worked as a Judge in Regional & National Competitions, modified and helped design competition projects, set up and run Regional Competitions, help set up at the 2010 National Competition, Brisbane. I have also been involved in the preparation for the 2012 WSA National Competition.

Why do choose to volunteer at WorldSkills Australia?

I competed many years ago as an apprentice in what was then Work Skills. It helped me to develop confidence in my skills. I now work as a trade teacher and I like to see motivated young people succeed or at least use the opportunity to better themselves.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

I enjoy meeting other like minded passionate young and older tradespeople from different disciplines. It has given me the opportunity to contribute to the skills pool of my own trade, travel to places to volunteer and to spend time and catch up with fellow volunteers and competitors.
