Queensland Overseas Foundation (QOF) Award Ceremony

Three WorldSkills Competitors received the Queensland Overseas Foundation (QOF) overseas travel Award in a ceremony at Brisbane Parliament House on Friday 7th of March 2017.

This year, the awards included three scholarships for young vocational training graduates:

● Adrian Clark, Bricklaying – BIGA Training
● Ben Nedwich, Business – TAFE Queensland East Coast
● Justin Wade, Meat Processing (Retailing) – Axial Training

Through their scholarships, these recipients will be given the exciting opportunity to live and work overseas in a country of their choice for up to two years.

Bursaries were also awarded to outstanding vocational education and training educators. WorldSkills Skill Expert, Carl Balke was awarded a bursary for his outstanding work as a vocational education and training educator. Carl is a Lead Vocational Teacher for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at TAFE Queensland SkillsTech. The bursary will enable Carl to travel overseas and undertake professional development opportunities.

Queensland Overseas Foundation Chair, Mr Geoff Favell said the awards would benefit Queensland industries in the long term. “The Queensland Overseas Foundation Awards enable exceptional Queensland vocational education and training personnel to travel overseas and test their abilities against the best in the world.”

“These Awards are unique in Queensland and they are invaluable to the recipients but also to the communities and education settings they return to.”
