7:00pm local time marked the official kick off of the 42nd WorldSkills International Competition, the Opening Ceremony was held last night in the Samsung Arena at the Leipzig Messe.
The arena was bursting with excitement and patriotic fans who were cheering on each of the 52 member countries as they marched out on stage behind their nation’s flag.
An audience of official ‘Skillaroos Supporters’ erupted when classic Australian rock anthem ‘Thunderstruck’ by AC/DC began blaring from the speakers of the venue and the 31 Skillaroos proudly walked out on stage, lead by our cabinetmaker, Brett Cahill.
“It was an incredible honour to be selected by the team to be the flag bearer for Australia at the Opening Ceremony. Last night made it really sink in for me that I am an Australian representative at this competition and the whole ceremony was an experience I will never forget,” says Brett Cahill.
