Auto electricians work on extra-low voltage electrical and electronic systems to install, maintain, identify faults and repair electrical wiring and computer-based equipment in motor vehicles and related equipment. The scope of work for an automotive electrician is extremely diverse, including work on road-going cars and trucks, but also recreational vehicles, 4wd, golf carts, fork lifts, elevated work platforms, mining equipment, agricultural equipment, earthmoving and plant equipment, and also fixed battery/solar applications in remote locations. Auto electricians may work as an individual or as a member of a team in various conditions – inside, outside and on the move.

Automotive refinishing involves the paint, refinish, repair and maintenance of painted surfaces on a range of automotive vehicles and recreational vehicles. These skills must be of the highest quality industry standard possible, with an emphasis on workshop efficiencies and productivity using the latest in technologies available in our industry today. All of these skills play an integral part of working in an efficient smash repair business.

The competition requires competitors to demonstrate the skills and knowledge of the vehicle refinish industry. They will compete on a number of tasks including panel preparation, priming and sanding, layout and design measurements, colour matching, de-nib/buffing and decal application.

YOU SHOULD PURSUE A CAREER IN VEHICLE PAINTING IF YOU:

Do not have any breathing-related problems
Are not allergic to thinners or paints

Automotive body repair technicians primarily repair and maintain vehicles in the automotive industry, including cars, heavy vehicles and other vehicles. Workers need to be comfortable with technology and heavy machinery, with good precision and high attention to detail.

The WorldSkills Australia competition requires the competitor to perform at the level of an apprentice in terms of skills and knowledge. Competitors must demonstrate skilled operations work in the use of hand tools and general equipment, and complete an autobody repair project within the time constraint.

Are practical and good with your hands
Are interested in technical and mechanical activities
