Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition for Automotive Mechanics aligns to the Units of Competency in the AUR30620 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology Qualification.

Regional Tasks

The Regional Competition consists of five sections relating to various aspects of skills related to an automotive technician

• Engine management
• Cooling system
• Brakes, steering and suspension
• Engine mechanical
• Vehicle service and electrical check

The project involves vehicles and equipment preferably not more than five years old. The Competition project is designed to test the Competitors skills in the following areas related to Automotive Mechanics:

• Good time management skills
• Ability to work under pressure and in the competition environment
• Accurate measurement skills with a variety of measurement tools
• Some basic diagnostic skills mechanical and electrical
• Excellent underpinning knowledge of vehicle systems and principles
• Excellent hand skills and keen observational skills
• Excellent housekeeping, safe work practices and sustainable practice skills

Regionals Competition Duration

The competition is completed in 4.15 hours over 1 day not including briefing or breaks.

Training Package Requirements – National Level

The WorldSkills Australia National Competition for Automotive Mechanics aligns to the Units of Competency in the AUR30620 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology Qualification.

National Tasks

The National Competition consists of five modules relating to various aspects of skills related to an automotive technician.  These various modules have a number of tasks to allow the competitor to display a variety of skills in tasks related to the section theme. The modules include:
•  Engine management and diagnosis
•  Braking, steering and suspension system inspection and repair
•  Electrical systems
•  Manual transmission inspection & measurement
•  Engine overhaul & measurement.

Competitors will be required to correctly & accurately inspect, measure or diagnose predetermined faults on a components or systems from each of these categories

•  Good time management skills

Nationals Competition Duration 

The competition is completed in 16 hours over 3 days not including briefing or breaks.
