Often called 3D printing, additive manufacturing is a technique for producing physical objects from digital 3D designs by gradually adding material in layers.

Additive Manufacturing is one of the newest and fast developing branch of engineering.  Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, in Additive Manufacturing objects are “buillt” by adding layer-upon layer of material, and this extends engineering capabilities and significantly complements turning and milling machining.

The WorldSkills Australia Additive Manufacturing Competition focuses on the skills required to achieve transformation in industrial production that enables the creation of lighter, stronger parts and systems.

YOU SHOULD PURSUE A CAREER IN ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING IF YOU:

  • Have a strong background in computer technology
  • Are interested in technical and engineering work
  • Have a capacity for creative thinking and problem-solving
  • Are interested in mechanical equipment, physics and mathematics
  • Have an interest towards continuous improvement practices
  • Can work cooperatively as part of a team and have good communication skills
