In September 2026, 37 of Australia’s most talented young apprentices, trainees and students travelled to Shanghai to represent their country at the world’s largest international skills competition.
Competing against approximately 1,400 competitors from nearly 70 countries and regions, the Skillaroos put their abilities to the ultimate test across 33 skills, from traditional trades to emerging technologies.
After four days of intense competition, Team Australia returned with an impressive 13 awards: two Silver Medals, one Bronze Medal and 10 Medals for Excellence, recognising competitors who achieved world-class standards in their respective skills.
But WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 was about more than medals.
Behind every competitor were years of training, determination and sacrifice, supported by dedicated Experts, Team Leaders, trainers, mentors, employers, families and industry partners who helped them reach the world stage.
Together, Team Australia demonstrated the extraordinary talent emerging from Australia’s vocational education and training system, the high standard of the Australian skills sector and what is possible when young people pursue excellence in their chosen skill.
