Signage competitors compete at Trade Show

The Visual Impact Trade Show is a bi-annual exhibition which showcases the latest and greatest in the Visual Graphics Industries. This year the exhibition was held from the 12th to the 14th of September at The Sydney Showgrounds.

In a first of its kind, Visual Industries Suppliers Association (VISA), a sponsor of WSA’s Signage category, provided 10 of the 2013 WSA Regional Signage Competition winners an all-expense paid trip to Homebush, Sydney. The competitors got the opportunity to participate in the Skills Development Competition, held as part of the Visual Impact Trade Show.

The regional winners were given the chance to train on the modules of the 2014 National Competition as well as lend advice from industry and education representatives in vehicle wrapping and LED sign production.

As part of the competition VISA and Trotec provided all the prizes for the highest ranked competitors which included Apple iPad minis and a trip overseas for the overall winner. After being assessed by industry experts in design, application and fabrication the winners were announced at a presentation during the final day of the show.

The overall winner of the competition was Luke Lane from the Brisbane region. Luke was awarded with a once in a lifetime trip to Austria, where he will not only get the opportunity to visit the Trotec factory and experience firsthand how the Trotec laser machines are produced but will also receive invaluable training from industry experts.

WorldSkills Australia, along with the competitors and judges of the Signage Development competition would like to thank VISA, Trotec, Graphic Art Mart, Rowland, Ricky Richards, Image, Avery and TAFE NSW for this amazing opportunity.

Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who participated.
