WorldSkills Australia International Competition – 30th Anniversary
In 2018, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the WorldSkills International Competition being held in Australia. The 29th International Youth Skill Olympics was held from the 18th – 21st February 1988 at the then newly opened Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre in Sydney.
Australia was represented by 34 competitors in the official categories and 22 competitors in the demonstration categories.
Australia won 4 Gold medals, 5 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals. Overall, Australia was ranked third behind Korea and Taiwan.
The theme song for that year, ‘Turning Talent Into Gold’, was written for the WorldSkills Australia International team to celebrate the 1988 ‘Skill Olympics’ being held in Sydney.
This year at Skills Show Australia 2018, we will be celebrating 30 years of WorldSkills Australia through activations, video presentations and memorabilia displays from the last 30 years of WorldSkills.
