Day 2 of the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition

The 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition is over halfway finished, and it was game on for the competitors today.  Yesterday’s excitement and nerves gave way to focus and determination across the board.

Many projects really started to take shape today, which proved a visual treat for today’s school groups and members of the public.  The competitors’ gardens in Landscape Construction now have retaining walls and crazy paved paths, the Retail Baking Pastry competitors worked on their delicious chocolate sculptures and Hairdressing was a wave of beautifully delicate hair designs.  While our friend, Nathan Templeton from Seven Sunrise had a go at Bricklaying yesterday, it was the professionals’ turn to shine during today’s brick pier speed test.

Over 40 training institute directors from across the country enjoyed a tour of the National Competition today, taking in the sights and sounds after a great range of talks and presentations at the TDA 2016 Convention over the past three days.  The group enjoyed seeing the culmination of their students’ hard work over the past year and were excited to see so many potential future students having a blast in the Skills Village and the fun obstacle course on the lawn.

With the endeavour to set themselves up for a successful final day of the National Competition came a strong desire to watch their fellow competitors succeed.  The camaraderie between the competitors, judges and volunteers was infectious as they reassured each other of a job well done and spent their breaks happily talking shop with each other.

Come see the competitors in action for FREE tomorrow – Saturday, 8 October – from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  We’ll be posting plenty more images and videos on social media tomorrow, so be sure to join us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat for the latest development from the event.
