Young jewellery competitor shines at Australian Jewellery Fair demonstration

Visitors of the Australian Jewellery Fair enjoyed a special presentation as regional gold medallist Chloe Biddiscombe wowed the crowds with a live demonstration of her skills.

Chloe’s demonstration at the fair was part of her training in the lead up to the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition, Melbourne where she will compete against the nation’s best young jewellery apprentices, trainees and students for the coveted title of ‘National Champion’. She spent her time at the fair re-creating the competition project from the 2014 National Competition in Perth, which closely aligns with the calibre of project she can expect to compete with this October.

WorldSkills Australia partners and National Competition supporters Pallion and Australian Jewellers Supplies were more than happy to help Chloe with the fair, providing her with the materials and equipment she required.

“Supporting vocational jewellery education and training is something that Pallion sees as essential to securing the future of Australian jewellery manufacture,” says Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Cohineas.

WorldSkills Australia Interim CEO, Brigitte Collins asserts the importance of government, industry and educators collaborating to promote vocational education, particularly within industries that are struggling such as jewellery manufacture. “This was an excellent opportunity for Chloe to showcase her skills at the Australian Jewellery Fair, whist gaining more practice and experience in the lead up to the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition in October,” she says.

“This is an excellent example of how industry and VET can work together to support but also showcase the upcoming talent in the Industry.”

Chloe will continue training over the next seven months for her shot at greatness at the National Competition. “I am grateful for the opportunity. I hope to see an improvement in my abilities as a reflection of my efforts leading up to the competition.”
