“I love working with my hands, especially in metal. The skill has given me a creative outlet. It’s become a passion, not just for creating fine jewellery but from learning from experienced artists.”
Jeweller/Setter, Griffin Kidman-Lewis’s Jewellery career began as a hobby to overcome the sadness of losing his grandmother, but it fast became a career, in part due to his willingness to be open.
“I love the Albert Einstein quote ‘Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them’ because I believe it’s important to ask for help. Most people don’t because they’re afraid of being judged. But if you accept someone knows something you don’t, you have the chance to learn from them.”
Griffin has thoroughly enjoyed his WorldSkills experience, both at Regional and National levels, especially “being surrounded by people who are as driven as me.”
“WorldSkills has taught me what to look for in my work that makes the jump from good to great. It’s also helped me learn how to keep calm under immense pressure.”
The biggest challenge Griffin faced so far has been an internal one. “It’s the mental factor; hand making something that has to be as perfect as possible.” But it’s one he clearly overcame, securing a Gold Medal at Regionals and a 2025 National Championship Finalist.
Looking further down the road, Griffin hopes to have his own Jewellery business, making quality high-end work but also training the next generation. “Even if I can inspire people to take up jewellery as a hobby, I’m happy. I really believe everyone should do some form of art.”
For now though, he’s content to keep upskilling. “I see myself learning as much as I can from the masters in my trade, while still producing work of my own.”
