BMW automotive mechanic headed for WSA National Competition

Brian Kirkman is our 9th revealed National Competitor, who will be representing the Melbourne Region in the Automotive Mechanics category at the 2014 WorldSkills Australia National Competition this September.

Brian, who is employed by VACC and currently working at BMW Melbourne, will also be vying for a scholarship through one of WorldSkills Australia’s prestigious international pathways where he will be given the chance to pursue further skill development through study, work experience, overseas travel or financial support.

“I was ecstatic when I found out that I had won gold in the Regional Competition, it felt great to achieve something in the automotive field. I’m excited I get to compete nationally and it will be a good experience where I can test my skills against the best competitors in Australia,” says Brian about progressing to the 2014 WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Perth.

Brian who is currently attending Box Hill Institute will work closely with his employer and trainer to help prepare and refine his skills. “I will look at my strengths and weaknesses from the Regional Competition to see where I can improve and I will continue my studies,” says Brian.
