Competitor Familiarisation Day

Today was the first time competitors were allowed to access the competition site for their official category briefings and to familiarise themselves with all aspects of their skill area. The Skillaroos use the Competitor Familiarisation Day to become familiar with any last minute changes that have been introduced and to gain experience using local equipment and materials. A dedicated support team is on hand to assist with any last minute requests varying from sourcing a local hair straightener to power boards.

“The Skillaroos spend the day becoming familiar with their equipment and materials and in fact their whole workspace. Competitor Familiarisation Day is a vital component in the lead up to any WorldSkills International Competition. It’s a time of nerves but also a time of great anticipation as well.”

“It’s looking fantastic in there, it’s a massive venue with state of the art facilities throughout the venue, so I think everyone is going to blown away, both competitors and visitors. Let’s hope we get hundreds of thousands of visitors coming through to see these skill champions, including our very own Skillaroos, competing to be the best in the world,” says Mark Callaghan, CEO of WorldSkills Australia.
