“I want to deliver high-performance systems that set new benchmarks in robotics and aerospace. My goal is to design machines that operate with absolute precision, withstand extreme conditions, and consistently perform at their peak when it matters most.”
João Marcos Boulomytis Correa is in his final year studying an Advanced Diploma in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, with plans to undertake a Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering. He describes himself as a man of two sides: one cerebral, the other a dopamine-seeker.
“I’m a thrill-seeker at heart. I love anything that gets me outdoors and gives me a solid dose of adrenaline. I love skateboarding, snowboarding, and mountain and dirt biking. Anything that combines speed, skill and fun is my paradise.”
These activities fuel his competitive drive, sharpen his focus, and inspire his creativity—skills he brings to his Engineering work. João Marcos’s love of engineering began early. “I first discovered an interest in Mechatronics when tinkering in the garage as a kid, putting together contraptions using my grandpa’s old tools. I loved taking things apart and figuring out how they worked. As I got older, I realised that seed of curiosity could be applied to solving real-world problems.”
As his skills grew, he took on increasingly complex projects, such as designing drone frames and electronic circuits. “These challenged my technical abilities and deepened my understanding of mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems.” His love of Engineering was also influenced by his parents. “Mum has always encouraged my creativity, and Dad shared his love of aeroplanes with me. They both instilled in me a deep interest in mechanical systems.”
João Marcos won the Gold Medal at the 2025 National Championships in Mechatronics. “It was an amazing opportunity to shine in my passion, but also to see others do the same. It gives me real hope for the future.”
The experience reinforced his commitment to merging robotics and aerospace. “It’s shown me I’m more resilient and adaptable than I realised.” João Marcos aims to contribute to advancements in aerospace, robotics, or renewable energy. “I hope to not only advance the industry but inspire the next generation of innovators.”
