Day 1 of the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition
The first day of the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition has finished for most of the over 500 young apprentices, trainees and students vying for gold this year.
Several primary and secondary school groups visited the National Competition today. The students enjoyed watching the competitors’ projects taking shape, and the Skills Village and the range of Try’aSkill activities throughout the event proved to be popular attractions for visitors of all ages.
The air was buzzing with a few nerves and plenty of excitement as the competition commenced in each skill area. The competitors were very focused on the task at hand throughout the day, but they were all smiles during break times and especially as Day 1 came to a close. It is clear by the support and encouragement witnessed throughout the event that new friendships are already being formed between competitors from across the country.
There’s still time to visit the National Competition, which has FREE entry and will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, 7 and Saturday, 8 October. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest developments from the event.
