Harry blazed his way to win Bronze at the 47th WorldSkills Competition, Lyon 2024
Representing Australia with exceptional talent and drive, 2024 Skillaroo Harry Field has
triumphantly earned a bronze medal at the thrilling 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon. Amid
intense international competition and the applause of over 250,000 spectators, Harry stood out
among 1,400 of the world’s top young professionals from 70 countries, each competing for the
coveted gold, silver, and bronze medals. His impressive performance is a true reflection of his
dedication and highlights Australia’s unwavering commitment to fostering excellence on the global
stage.
Echoes from the proud cheering of family and friends demonstrated the support Harry received
throughout his journey. Crucial to his success was the mentorship of expert Mark Williams, who
accompanied Harry to Lyon and is ecstatic about the result.
The path to WorldSkills began over two years ago, starting with regional competitions in
Macquarie. Armed with skills honed at TAFE NSW and supported by his employer AOK
Fabrications, Harry advanced from regionals to nationals, and ultimately earning a spot at the 2024
Global Skills Challenge. After a thrilling contest, Harry secured a coveted place on the 2024
Skillaroos team.
Preparation for this international stage was intense, with countless hours dedicated to training,
including rigorous ‘mock’ competitions. WorldSkills Australia’s 2024 Global Skills Challenge
(GSC)—the largest international skills event in Australia this year—featured over 400 international
guests from 17 countries across 28 skill disciplines. This four-day event, held at several Victorian
TAFEs, served as a final, high-stakes rehearsal for the WorldSkills Australian Skills Squad before
they officially became Skillaroos.
Lyon set the stage for this dynamic global event. WorldSkills Australia CEO Trevor Schwenke
remarked, “Watching the world’s top talents display their skills at Lyon’s iconic Eurexpo venue has
been a true highlight. Yet, the crowning moment of our experience came when one of our
Skillaroos, Harrison Field earned a Bronze medal, bringing the Lyon event full circle.”
Harry is thrilled to have represented Australia in Lyon, relishing the opportunity to compete among
the best in their field.
Guided by the expertise of Mark Williams, Harry achieved their WorldSkills Bronze medal. Mark
Williams has been involved with WorldSkills Australia since his regional competition in 2006. As an
international expert, this upcoming cycle will be his third, showcasing his extensive experience and
expertise in the field. Mark has had a range of employment opportunities across the welding
industry since being an international WorldSkills competitor in 2007, where he embarked on a
diverse career path, benefitting immensely from the intensive training provided by WorldSkills.
