Healthcare Competition
Healthcare Practitioners offer a range of support to individual clients and their family in order to ensure holistic care needs are met. Whilst the Healthcare practitioner may work directly for the client they are normally employed by an organisation within the health and social care sector.
The WorldSkills Australia Healthcare Competition covers the essential skills within a Diploma of Nursing in a variety of simulated environments, including the clients home, hospital, day care, and residential and nursing homes.
YOU SHOULD PURSUE A CAREER IN HEALTHCARE IF YOU:

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION
The WorldSkills Australia Healthcare Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. The Healthcare Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.
WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next Healthcare Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2023 and 2025 are the next National Championship years.

Regional Competition
Training Package Requirements – Regional Level
The 2024 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in Healthcare aligns to the Units of Competency contained in the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing Qualification.
Regional Tasks
The Regional Competition has been designed for Competitors to perform critical skills of the Health Care Worker under a simulated environment. Competitors will be assigned tasks whereby they will demonstrate self-management, communication, interpersonal, problem solving, innovation and creativity and empathy skills. The competition project is designed to test the Competitors skills in the following areas related to Healthcare:
- Hospital Care
- Day Care
- Home Care
- Aged Care
- Care Planning
- Documentation – observation charts, would chart & progress notes
- Workplace Health and Safety
- Hand Hygiene
- PPE & cross contamination prevention
Regionals Competition Duration
The competition is completed in 3 hours over 1 day not including briefing or breaks.
National Competition

The 2023 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in Healthcare aligns to the Units of Competency contained in the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing Qualification.
National Tasks
The National Competition has been designed for Competitors to perform critical skills of the Health Care Worker.
