VETiS Business Services Competition

Business services encompass the work that supports a business and enables it to run smoothly. For example, administrative professionals provide crucial business services. Information technology professionals also provide an important business service, which can support many other business services such as procurement, shipping and finance. The VETiS Business Services competition showcases a diverse range of office administration tasks over the competition. Competitors will be required to communicate effectively and demonstrate their competency using the latest version of MS Office.

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION

The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Business Services Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 34 Australian regions. The VETiS Business Services Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.

WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next VETiS Business Services Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2018 and 2020 are the next National Championship years.

Regional Competition

Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in VETiS Business Services is aligned to the following Units of Competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in the BSB20115 Certificate II in Business (Release 1) Qualifications:

  • BSBINM202 – Handle mail
  • BSBINM201 – Process and maintain workplace information
  • BSBITU201 – Produce simple word-processed documents
  • BSBITU202 – Create and use spreadsheets
  • BSBWHS201 – Contribute to health and safety of self and others
  • BSBWOR202 – Organise and complete daily work activities
  • BSBWOR204 – Use business technology

Regional Tasks

The competition includes a range of office administration tasks including demonstrating competency using the latest version of MS Office by:

  • Creating databases
  • Manipulating spreadsheet data
  • Creating form letters and mailing labels using mail
  • Merging data
  • Designing promotional material and follow style guides

National Competition

Training Package Requirements – National Level

The WorldSkills Australia National Competition in VETiS Business Services is aligned to the following Units of Competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in the BSB20115 Certificate II in Business (Release 1) Qualifications.

National Tasks

Competitors are required to produce accurate, quality documents that meet industry standards. They will be assessed on their ability to:

  • Use business technology
  • Organise and complete daily work activities
  • Process and maintain workplace information
  • Create and use simple spreadsheets
  • Produce simple word-processed documents
  • Handle mail
  • Communicate in the workplace

18 hours – 3 days
