The Food and Beverage industry in Australia is rich and complex, with many opportunities for individuals considering a career in Hospitality, whether it is as part of a large team or in a small business.
The VETiS Food and Beverage Competition includes a chance for Competitors to demonstrate their high levels of skill in food and non-alcoholic beverage service, customer service, workplace health and safety and hygiene.

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION
The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Food & Beverage Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. The VETiS Food & Beverage Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.
WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next VETiS Food & Beverage Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2023 and 2025 are the next National Championship years.

Training Package Requirements
The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Food and Beverage Competitions align to the National Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package.
Regional Competition
The 2024 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition for VETiS Food and Beverage aligns to the Units of Competency in the SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality Qualification.
Regional Competition Tasks
The Regional Competition for VETiS has been designed to cover skills consistent with the service associated with a high tea, plus provision of non-alcoholic beverages and tea.
Regional Competition Tasks Include:
- Provide customer service
- Prepare for service (mise en place)
- Table settings
- Order taking
- Food and beverage service
- Preparing and service of tea
Regionals Competition Duration
Total competition time is 4 hours over 1 day not including breaks or briefing.
National Competition
Training Package Requirements – National Level
The 2023 WorldSkills Australia National Competition for VETiS Food and Beverage aligns to the Units of Competency in the SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality Qualification.
National Competition Tasks
The National Competition for VETiS has been designed to cover skills consistent with the Food and Beverage Industry, Competitors will be required to perform a variety of practical tasks for invited guests.
National Competition Tasks Include:
- Provide customer service skills
- Prepare for service (mise en place)
- Table setting
- Order taking
- Service of food
- Preparation and service of non-alcoholic beverages including coffee and tea
- Design and prepare a mocktail of choice with tent card, and three different styles of service
Nationals Competition Duration
The competition time is 12 hours over 3 days including breaks or briefing.
