VETiS Health Care Assistance Competition

Healthcare Assistants provide assistance to health professional staff for the care of clients. Health services assistance involves the worker in direct client contact under supervision. Depending on the setting, work may include following treatment plans for therapeutic interventions and/or conducting programs under the regular direct, indirect or remote supervision of an allied health professional.

The  Healthcare Assistant VETiS Competitions test the critical skills for the Health Care Industry.

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION

The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Health Care Assistance Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. The VETiS Health Care Assistance Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.

WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next VETiS Health Care Assistance Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2023 and 2025 are the next National Championship years.

Regional Competition

Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The 2024 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition for VETIS Healthcare Assistant is aligned to the Units of Competency contained in the HLT33015 – Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance and HLT33115 – Certificate III in Health Services Assistance Qualifications.

Regional Competition Tasks

The Regional Competition has been designed for Competitors to perform critical skills of the Health Care Worker under a simulated environment. Competitors will be assigned tasks whereby they will demonstrate self-management, communication, interpersonal, problem solving and empathy skills. The competition project is designed to test the Competitors skills in the following areas related to Healthcare:

Regional Competition Tasks include:

  • Participate in workplace health and safety
  • Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • Assist with movement
  • Maintain a high standard of service
  • Communicate and work in health or community services
  • Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately

Regionals Competition Duration

The competition is completed in 3 hours over 1 day not including briefing or breaks

National Competition

The National Competition has been designed for Competitors to perform critical skills of the Health Care Worker under a simulated environment. Competitors will be assigned tasks whereby they will demonstrate self-management, communication, interpersonal, problem solving and empathy skills. The competition project is designed to test the Competitors skills in the following areas related to Healthcare:

 National Competition Tasks include:

  • Hospital Care
  • Day Care
  • Home Care
  • Aged Care
  • Care Planning
  • Documentation
  • Workplace health and safety
  • Infection prevention and control

Nationals Competition Duration

Total competition time is 12 hours over 3 days not including breaks or briefing.
