VETiS Information Technology Competition

Information technology offers a broad range of job opportunities, from computer support to computer programming and software development. Information technology professionals are able to communicate effectively in an (Information and Communication Technology) ICT environment, they can operate application software packages, create user documentation, and provide IT advice to clients. This competition is designed to evaluate the competitor’s ability to develop ICT solutions to problems faced by public and commercial organisations wishing to implement productivity gains through the expansion and integration of their information and communication systems.

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION

The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Information Technology Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 34 Australian regions. The VETiS Information Technology Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.

WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next VETiS Information Technology Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2018 and 2020 are the next National Championship years.

The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Information Technology competitions are aligned to the ICT Information and Communications Technology (Release 3.1) training package.

Regional Competition

Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in VETiS Information Technology align to the following Units of Competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in ICT20115 – Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Release 2) Qualifications:

  • BSBSUS201 – Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
  • ICTICT202 – Work and communicate effectively in an ICT environment
  • ICTICT301 – Create user documentation
  • ICTICT203 – Operate application software packages
  • ICTSAS305 – Provide IT advice to clients

 

Regional Tasks

  • Develop company logo graphics
  • Manipulate graphics file formats
  • Integrate graphics into organisational documents according to design drafts
  • Design and develop an instruction sheet and a data collection form in accordance with enterprise style guides or practices
  • Modify a database by importing data into tables, modifying data in records, and creating forms and queries
  • Design and develop a presentation using a PowerPoint slide show in accordance with a draft and specifications

5.5 hours – 1 day

National Competition

Training Package Requirements – National Level

The 2018 WorldSkills Australia National Competition for VETiS Information Technology align to the following Units of Competency (Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria) contained in the ICT20115 – Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Release 2).

In addition to the Regional requirements, the National also includes:

  • BSBSUS201 – Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
  • ICTICT302 – Install and optimise operating system software
  • ICTSAS301 – Run standard diagnostic tests

National Tasks

  • Creation and execution of a PowerPoint presentation
  • Creation of content for business reports
  • Risk management
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmentally sustainable work practices
  • Demonstrate knowledge of operating systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of software programs
  • Create and use of virtual machines based on specifications provided
  • Install services, software, OS, and antivirus
  • Demonstrate knowledge of system diagnostics
  • Client evaluation
  • Create user manuals
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OHS

Nationals Competition Duration

22 hours – 3 days
