Retail is an extensive industry that has much to offer in terms of varied career pathways. If you love customer service and have a passion for products, then sell your way through a rewarding career in retail.

The VETiS Retail Competition is designed to evaluate the competitor’s skills towards engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations.

YOU SHOULD PURSUE A CAREER IN RETAIL IF YOU:

  • Enjoy meeting and working with people
  • Have strong interpersonal skills especially empathy, tact and discretion
  • Have good communications skills

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION

The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Retail Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. The VETiS Retail Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.

WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next VETiS Retail Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2023 and 2025 are the next National Championship years.

Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The 2024 WorldSkills Australia Regional VETiS Retail Competition aligns to the Units of Competency contained in the SIR30216 – Certificate III in Retail Qualification.

Regional Competition Tasks

The Regional Competition for VETiS is designed for Competitors to demonstrate their skills towards engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations.

  • Organising and maintain the store environment
  • Use of point of sale
  • Produce a visual merchandise displays
  • Engaging the customer
  • Sales technique
  • Risk management

Regionals Competition Duration

Total competition time is 3.5 hours over 1 day not including breaks or briefing.
