IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION

The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Wall & Floor Tiling Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. The VETiS Wall & Floor Tiling Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.

WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next VETiS Wall & Floor Tiling Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2023 and 2025 are the next National Championship years.

Regional Competition

Training Package Requirements – Regional Level

The 2024 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition for VETIS Wall & Floor Tiling align to the Units of competency contained in the CPC31320 – Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling and CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways Qualifications.

Regional Competition Tasks

The Regional Competition for VETiS has been designed for Competitors to perform a combination of industry skills comprising of level, plumb, alignment, measurements and square of two walls.

Regional Competition Tasks include:

  • Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare Surfaces for tiling application
  • Carry Out Measurements and Calculations
  • Apply Basic Levelling Procedures.
  • Handle Wall & Floor Tiling Materials.
  • Use Wall & Floor Tiling Tools & Equipment.
  • Fix Wall Tiles.

Regionals Competition Duration

The competition is completed in 6 hours over 1 day not including briefing or breaks

National Competition

Training Package Requirements – National Level

The 2023 WorldSkills Australia National Competition for VETIS Wall & Floor Tiling aligns to the  Units of competency contained in the CPC31320 – Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling Qualification

National Competition

The National Competition for VETiS has been designed for Competitors to undertake project work that will test the common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling.  The project is designed to test the Competitors skills in the following areas related to Wall & Floor Tiling:

Regional National Tasks include:

  • Reading and interpreting plans and specifications,
  • Surface preparation to substrates.
  • Cutting tiles
  • Laying wall and floor tiles
  • Screeding sand and cement
  • Grouting

Nationals Competition Duration

Total competition time is 18 hours over 3 days not including breaks or briefing.
