Today is World Youth Skills Day

By: Mark Callaghan

In November 2014, the United Nations declared July 15 as World Youth Skills Day. This UN designated day aims to create greater awareness of the importance of vocational education and training (VET) and the development of skills – locally and globally.

It is only fitting then that the inaugural World Youth Skills Day comes at a time when the 2015 Skillaroos are in the final stages of their preparation for the 43rd WorldSkills Competition in São Paulo, Brazil. In just over three weeks, the 2015 Skillaroos will board a plane for Brazil where they will showcase their skills and aim to be the best in the world.

The Skillaroos along with other WorldSkills Champions are skill ambassadors and can be held up as examples to all Australians of what can be achieved via a VET pathway. The skills that they possess are inherent nation building skills and are vital for personal success as well as achieving economic growth for Australia.

Help WorldSkills Australia celebrate World Youth Skills Day by supporting the 2015 Skillaroos as they take on the world in Brazil.
