“I got into Cloud Computing at age 13 building small apps. I was drawn in by how quickly I could make things work and how useful it could be.”

Help Desk Technician, Sonny Hull says there wasn’t one big moment he knew he wanted to pursue a career in Cloud Computing. But it seems his friend may have contributed. “Seeing him actually make money from his Amazon Web Services app helped me realise this could be a real career.”

Sonny first competed in 2023 at just 16 years of age. “It was nerve wracking and a bit intimidating,” but he was more experienced competing at the 2025 National Championships, and it paid off – winning Gold in Cloud Computing.

“It was still really challenging performing under pressure. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and start doubting yourself. I just remember to pause, breathe, look at the bigger picture, and talk it through logically. Being grateful for how far I’ve come also helps me calm the nerves and focus.”

Sonny is quick to share how appreciative he is about the support he’s received, especially from his mum, mentors and girlfriend. But there’s two others who’ve also made a big difference.

“Oisin Aeonn, who I met at the 2023 Nationals. He competed at the 2024 Internationals in France in the same skill, and he now works at Amazon Web Services. Seeing his path makes the big goals feel reachable. My work team leader, Andrew has played a large role in my development, not just as an employee but as a person too. He’s a great mentor, teaching me the skills I need and supporting me right through the competition.”

Sonny’s wider work team have made an impact too. “I’ve learned the importance of communication, being reliable, and that hard work genuinely pays off. Those lessons have shaped how I show up both at work and in competitions.”

Sonny has plenty of upcoming goals, “Keep building in cloud computing, step into bigger roles, and climb the corporate ladder at a large tech company, I’d also like to help make Cloud Services more accessible for small businesses and schools.”
