Daniel Peto

Cyber Security

“My proudest moment was winning the Silver Medal at the National Championships. It was validation of all the hard work I put in, and proof that I belong in this field.”

Security Operations Centre Analyst Daniel Peto discovered Cyber Security at a young age. “I stumbled across YouTube tutorials on ethical hacking and was immediately hooked. I was fascinated by how digital systems could be broken into and defended.” Daniel describes his WorldSkills experience as an “incredible ride,” culminating in the Silver Medal at 2025 Nationals. “It challenged me on every level – technically, mentally, and emotionally. But it also gave me a massive confidence boost and a sense of direction for where I go next.”

Nominated directly by his institution, Daniel entered the 2025 Nationals and created a strict training schedule. The competition boosted his resilience and accelerated his technical growth. Daniel thanks those who helped him. “All my previous lecturers who genuinely love what they teach. A special thank you to Daniel Felipe Paris Gallardo who gave me the opportunity to compete and supported me with training resources and 2024 Skillaroos, Lachlan Gelavis, who answered every question I had about the competition, and Kai Baharthah-King who gave me last-minute words of encouragement when we bumped into each other at the airport heading to Brisbane.”

His employer, CyberCX, has been pivotal in his early career. “It’s my first job in the industry and I’ve learned so much already, especially around SOC analytics, threat intelligence, and real-world cyber defence. My team are amazing; always ready to answer my questions and offer support. I couldn’t have asked for a better environment to start my career.”

Looking ahead, Daniel wants to inspire others and help grow cyber capability in Australia. “I want to inspire others to see the value in Cyber Security and digital defence. I hope to contribute to the growth of the industry in Australia and make a difference globally by helping protect people and organisations from cyber threats. I’d like to mentor others too. I want them to see that with enough drive; anyone can turn curiosity into a career.”
