When Lachlan Gelavis’ TAFE teacher suggested he put his cyber security skills to the test at the WorldSkills Australia Regional competition, he wasn’t sure at first. But after checking his diary and seeing he had no other plans for the day, Lachlan decided to take the chance and enter.
Now preparing for Lyon 2024, Lachlan is extremely glad his calendar was free that day. The WorldSkills program has given him the chance to grow his cyber security skillset, develop his confidence and professional connections, and explore the industry further.
A key aspect of his growth in cyber security has been the guidance he receives from his mentor. Through regular weekly meetings, they assess his skills and identify areas for improvement, ensuring continual progress, and development in his expertise.
In addition to formal training, Lachlan dedicates his spare time to developing his cybersecurity knowledge and prowess, taking online training and staying up to date with the latest news and trends in the rapidly evolving field of cyber security.
“I find enjoyment out of the prospect of defending our local community from cyber-attackers.”
