Abbey Kuhnell
Abbey Kuhnell embodies the adage that if you do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. After a long day creating beautiful dishes at work, she loves nothing more than coming home and cooking a meal for her family – much to their delight.
Abbey’s love of food comes from her father, who is also a chef. The pair would often cook meals together, ranging from simple dishes to extravagant, multi-course meals. These early memories and her father’s devotion to the craft inspire her to be her best every single day.
With her passion for cooking and skillset, Abbey’s career path was all but mapped out for her. The talented young cook completed an apprenticeship while in year 12, before going on to commence a Certificate 3 while also putting her ever-growing skills to work as part of the kitchen team at the luxury Star Gold Coast.
While at The Star Gold Coast, Abbey met her mentor, Amber Heaton. As an award-winning young chef, Amber has been instrumental in teaching Abbey new techniques, recipes, and strategies for keeping her cool while in the heat of competition – lessons that she’ll be sure to use while in the kitchens of Lyon.
“I’m not afraid of trying new things in the kitchen. That’s resulted in some real creativity, but also some immense failures. I just see those as learning opportunities as they help me to refine my cooking and keep pushing the envelope.”
