At just 15 years’ old Neave O’Reily boldly embarked on a path that had long interested her: a career in nursing. This journey began with a school-based trainee program in Year 11, which laid the foundations for the rest of her professional journey. It was during her foundational studies for her Diploma that her head teacher recognised her potential and encouraged her to participate in the WorldSkills Regional competition, an opportunity that would significantly shape her career.

Currently, Neave is fully immersed in the nursing field, working full-time while continuing her training. She finds that her professional work and training complement each other, creating a seamless balance despite the inherent challenges of shift work. This synergy not only enhances her skills but also enriches her understanding of nursing – a profession in which she’s built many deep and meaningful connections.

Looking ahead, Neave aspires to expand her horizons by working overseas. The chance to showcase her skills on a global stage at Lyon 2024 is therefore a particularly exciting taste of things to come for Neave.

“Being able to demonstrate my skill in my employment has allowed me to make deep connections both with coworkers, teachers, and patients that are very significant to me.”
