Courtney New
Sydney’s Courtney New is a stitch above the rest having designed a successful path to the 45th WorldSkills International Championships this August in Kazan, Russia. Courtney’s WorldSkills Australia journey started when she competed in Sydney at regionals in her chosen skill of Fashion Technology. Armed with knowledge and an aptitude for design that she gained by studying at TAFE NSW Ultimo, Courtney challenged dozens of other young apprentices and tradespeople and successfully made her way to the 2019 Global Skills Challenge. Her effort and dedication has been rewarded by a spot of the coveted 2019 Skillaroos team, WorldSkills Australia’s international team.
Courtney’s success has been supported by her Expert, Donna Drain, a long time WorldSkills volunteer. When asked about how she feels about representing her country in Russia, Courtney said, “For me it is a final test in self faith. I didn’t give up, I didn’t let the pressure get to me and that is why I am where I am today. I get to represent my country and continue improving my skills in a trade that I love and one day hope to make an impact in.”
