Michele Leuci

Skill: Electrical Control
Region: Central Queensland, QLD
Training Provider: Gladstone TAFE & Central Queensland University, Gladstone
Employer: Boyne Smelters Ltd, Boyne Island
Mentor: Grant Gablonski

Michele’s father was an electrician, so it felt natural to follow in his footsteps and become one himself. Michele began his training with Gladstone TAFE and Central Queensland University in 2015, and works onsite with Boyne Smelters as an industrial electrician. When he completes his Electrical Control apprenticeship in early 2018, he will take on another apprenticeship to achieve his Instrumentation Certificate, which will give him a competitive dual trade.

“Doing the WorldSkills taught me a lot about my trade. Training for all those projects definitely got my hand skills up and I learnt a lot more about control circuitry. It was an awesome experience.”

His work placement in the UK will involve a slightly different line of work: residential and restaurant electrical installation rather than the industrial work he is doing at the moment. The UK will have its own systems of regulation too that he will have to learn. Luckily learning new things doesn’t faze him – he is looking forward to the challenge.
