Joshua Morrissey

Joinery

WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017

Josh’s TAFE NSW teacher approached him in his second year of study about the WorldSkills competition, when he recognised Joshua’s keen interest in detailed timber joinery.

“I’ve always loved making things and woodwork at school appealed to me. I always did well at it and it has become my skill, passion and career.”

“I love how beautiful wood is, I’ve always liked it.”

When he isn’t making things or restoring his old VW Beetle car, Joshua is working hard on his trade and improving his skills.

“It is amazing to work in a trade learning new skills constantly and being creative,” he says.

“Working in a trade develops problem-solving skills and confidence, which is vital in being a successful tradesperson. It’s a hands-on learning experience, social and extremely rewarding.”

After competing in Abu Dhabi, Josh wants to have a successful business in bespoke handmade products in the future.
